Just the three of us (+1 in the oven!)

Did any of my fellow moms cry their eyes out when you came to the realization that your first baby would only be an only child for just a few short months more? That’s me. With the special help of pregnancy hormones, I cry right before bedtime thinking about Avery and how things are going to be so different after this baby comes.

I am excited for this next journey; however, I want to make sure I soak up as much 1-on-1 time as possible. So, when I found out one of my favorite photographers would be visiting Southern California, I knew I had to schedule a family session.

16 months is an incredibly eventful age…a few weeks ago we took Avery to the park and when it was time to leave she threw her entire little body on the sand while screaming this high pitched animalistic sound as we tried to pick her up to go home. My husband and I looked at each other in disbelief and asked, ”Is this a temper tantrum?” Since then, we’ve experienced a few more temper tantrums and I have sent texts to my mom friends and family members for advice.

When we met with Paige, I warned her that there was a chance Avery would run as soon as we put her down to play in the sand. I don’t blame her, I would want to run and play in the sand without any interruptions too! Thankfully, Paige was super patient and knew just what to do to capture the perfect photos of just the three of us.

Happy December!

My Favorite First Trimester Maternity Styles

DSC_3658-Edit (1)
It’s that time of year again – the time when the buyers in Southern California don’t get the memo that it’s still 90 degrees and we CAN’T wear boots, sweaters, or scarves without melting to death by noon. This week it reached 100 degrees three days in a row. Yup, you heard me. And it’s the end of October.

Aside from dealing with the heat and growing a small human inside of me, I am also trying to find ways to dress up my little baby bump. It’s kind of that awkward time in the pregnancy where people don’t know if you are pregnant or just ate too many enchiladas the night before. In my case, it’s both! I have to wear maternity jeans because they are comfortable and easy on my growing belly. What they say about the second baby is true – your belly pops out much sooner than the first. I paired my Motherhood maternity jeans with a wine colored shirt and ankle booties for a summer/fall look. I paired this look with my favorite Rebecca Minkoff purse (that’s the perfect size!).

If you are in a much, much cooler state you can add a leather jacket to complete the look. I’m excited to share some more looks with you as my bump gets bigger! Happy Fall!

Snow White Bites the Apple – Halloween Costume 2017

sn- (2 of 7)

This year’s Halloween costume idea fit my current situation perfectly. I decided I would put a twist on a classic costume -.. Snow White, but as if she bit the apple. I am eating everything in sight these days. EVERYTHING. If you leave a snack around me, I will most certainly eat it. I just can’t help it.  And to think, I still have to survive the holidays!

I’ve always wanted to do a skull theme, but have been intimidated by the complexity and the sheer amount of time it was bound to take me. I was torn because Halloween is already a very hectic day in the King home – we have our annual King’s Haunted house that my hubby works so hard to create and plan weeks before, and this would also be Avery’s first year trick- or- treating, so we were anxious to take her around the block as soon as I got home from work.

Knowing all the things I had to do that day, painting a skull just sounded a like a lot of work. I decided, however, that I would go out with a bang since next year I’ll have a 2 year old AND a 7 month old and I reeeally wouldn’t have any time to dress up for my work festivities. I bit the bullet and looked up “easy skull tutorial” on Youtube.

Lazy days

Chubbythighs (4 of 11)
It’s been crazy in our house lately. Aside from working 40 hours a week, I’ve been working on Avery’s first birthday décor, creating custom save-the-dates, and creating wedding invites for close friends of mine. I have several friends who are tying the knot this year and it’s a joy to be a part of their special day. It’s definitely wedding season – that busy but joyful time of year! It’s difficult, though, because the second I step foot through the door, all I want to do is snuggle with my little one.

This past weekend we had zero plans. I try to take advantage of these gloriously empty days and spend plenty of time being lazy in our pajamas. I can’t get enough of her snuggles and chubby thighs. And apparently, neither can the dogs. Our dog Molly photobombed every single picture during our quick little photo session. I decided to capture the pure joy because it won’t be long enough until Molly is running in the other direction – away from a speedy toddler! I can’t wait to see their relationship blossom.

One day, the dogs will be following her around the house, hoping she drops a piece of food. It’s definitely going to be a love-hate relationship.

Friendship Goals

Avery’s friend Nixon came over for a playdate, and it was the first time Avery’s ever been around another baby. She was absolutely infatuated with him. It was like she was realizing that humans who are the same size as her actually exist – not only the giants that are her parents! She examined his every move, couldn’t stop touching his hand, and was mesmerized by his hair. I couldn’t even get her to look up at the camera for a picture! Can you say “boy crazy”? Lord help me one day.

I wish these two would stay this small forever. This picture was taken over a month ago and it seems like Avery has doubled in size. She is now able to sit up on her own (with the occasional fall), hold her bottle by herself, and she loves meeting new people. I will continue to capture every single moment with Avery and her new friends. I know it seems obnoxious when you’re not a parent, but what they say is true – it goes so fast!
